“Your place is here now.” It sounds like an invitation. It’s actually a command.

In this collection of horrors, Jason Fischer turns familiar spaces into deadly traps:

A dinner with a new “mother” who wasn’t invited. A Halloween visitor offers a treat you must not refuse. A puzzle book that predicts your future—and takes its cut. A cardboard cutout boy that won’t stay where it’s put. A dark carnival ride with no power runs perfectly on what you fear most.

These and other tales of folk, psychological, and elevated horror converge on one message: your place is here now . Take your seat.

"Fischer skillfully crafts each of these tales, and he shows a real knack for describing horrifying physical transformations... will entice fans of Twilight Zone -influenced horror." -- Kirkus Reviews

"The overall impact of the collection is genuinely unsettling, lingering long after the last page. That enduring unease is precisely what elevates Fischer’s collection beyond surface-level horror into something far more memorable." --Booksterr

How we calculate this

These are editorial estimates of intensity, informed by reading and review evidence, then checked before publication. They aren't star ratings, reader-vote averages or a measure of quality.

Each dimension runs from 1 (low) to 5 (exceptionally intense). A 5 is reserved for strongly consistent evidence. People experience horror differently.

Scary: Fear, tension and immediate threat.
Creepy: Unease, dread and an uncanny atmosphere.
Gore: Graphic injury, blood and bodily detail.
Disturbing: Upsetting ideas and lingering psychological impact.
Weird: Surreal, strange and reality-bending elements.

We draw a filled profile only when all five scores have been reviewed. Unrated does not mean mild. Missing scores are not estimated from genre tags or your saved taste. This profile isn't a complete content-warning guide.
